Joining in on any activity or sport gives students the opportunity to learn more about themselves, to build character for an individual and to gain essential skill sets needed for the real world. Here are the top ten sports teams at the University of Southern California.
1. Baseball Team
The baseball team represents the USC Trojans in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the PAc-12 Conference. they are coached by Jason Gill. Students wishing to be a part of this team can contact the Athletic Office to get more information about the recruitment process or attend walk-on tryouts. Students who are tryout out must know how to bat, catch the ball, and have the endurance for running from base to base.
2. Football Team
The USC Trojans football program is one of the most decorated teams in American college football. They represent the Trojans in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the PAc-12 Conference. Students who are looking to be on the team can contact their high school coaches to reach out to the USC coaches. Students will meet with the USC coaches and be able to show off their football skills during a game or during practice for them.
3. Women’s Soccer Team
The women’s soccer team represents the USC Trojans in the NCAA Division I women’s soccer tournament. They also compete in the Pac-12. This team is currently being coached by Keidane McAlpine. Students who want to be a part of the team are generally recruited in high school. Students can contact the Athletic Office for USC and find out when the recruitment process takes place and how they can one day be a part of this award-winning team!
4. Men’s and Women’s Basketball
The USC Trojans men’s and women’s basketball program competes in the Pac-12 Conference of the NCAA Division. This team is now coached by Andy Enfield, who takes this team to the home and away games. Students are recruited to be a part of the team throughout high school and as transfer students. Students must know how to shoot, dunk, and free-throw the ball, as well as have defense and offense skills.
5. Men’s Golf Team
The men’s and women’s golf team represents the USC Trojans in a number of golf tournaments. Students who are wishing to be a part of this program can contact the Athletic Office about the recruitment process which all students must go through in order to be considered. Students can then showcase how many times it takes them to get the ball in the hole, swinging the golf bat, and more.
6. Track and Field Team
The USC Trojans Track and Field program is one of the most renowned in the country. This team is coached by Caryl Smith Gilbert who takes her team to a number of regional, local, and national track meets. Students are generally recruited in high school, but you can also participate in open tryouts if there is space available. Students must know how to run fast, jump high, and more to be considered for this team.
7. Women’s Rowing Team
The rowing team takes part in a number of local, regional, and national competitions. Students do not need to have any experience to join, but they must know how to swim in the case of an emergency. Your swim skills will be evaluated in the tryouts. Students’ strength and endurance will also be evaluated during tryouts as well so make sure that you have the right endurance to handle different drills.
8. Women’s Lacrosse Team
The women’s lacrosse team at USC represents the Trojans in a number of local and regional competitions and tournaments. This team is coached by Lindsey Munday. Students wishing to be a part of this team are generally recruited. Students must know how to throw the ball, catch, and carry a ball with a long stick. Students must also prepare to run for extensive amounts of time.
9. Women’s Cross Country Team
The women’s cross country team represents the USC Trojans in a number of regional and national track meets. This team is coached by Patrick Henner who recruits students to join throughout the year. Students can also participate in the open walk-on tryouts in the fall. Students must know how to run long distances for an extensive amount of time and have skills such as hurdles and jumping.
10. Women’s Volleyball Team
The USC women’s volleyball team competes in a number of local, regional, and national tournaments. This team is coached by, head coach, JJ Van Niel. Students who are looking to be on this team can contact the Recruitment Office for more information on how you can get the coaches to notice you. Students must know how to catch, hit, and score a volleyball to the other team to be considered.
