Have you ever wanted to be in a play? To learn how to build a set or hang a light? As a member of Theatre Fairfield, you can do just that. Theatre Fairfield is a club at Fairfield University that usually puts on four productions every year. That means that over the course of your four years at the University, you have the opportunity to be apart of 16 productions, possibly even more. For anyone interested in the theatre, being involved in this program is an incredible experience, and here’s why.

1. You Will Gain Acting Experience

The shows that Theatre Fairfield puts on a range of musicals and plays, from shows still in development to shows entirely run by students. No matter what your previous acting experience may be, there is a chance for everyone to act in one of Theatre Fairfield’s productions. Due to the incredible variety of material that you will get to work on, you are guaranteed to learn different skills from each production.

2. You Will Gain Experience in Theatre Tech

As a member of Theatre Fairfield, not only do you have the opportunity to act, but you also get the chance to experience the technical side of theatre. You can be the Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager on a production, or you can join a crew such as Construction, Electrics, Props, Paint, or Wardrobe. You can work the light board or help with sound, or even help build costumes. There are so many different ways that you can become involved in a production. If acting isn’t for you, the technical side of theatre just might be.

3. You Will Get to Work With Incredible Professors

The Theatre program at Fairfield University is staffed by an amazing group of individuals. You will be taught by industry professionals that have made their living in the field and want nothing more than to help you succeed. The same professors that teach classes such as Intro to Theatre, Acting, Directing, and Stagecraft will be working with you on the various productions during the semester. The advice and teaching that they provide will help you with more than just theatre, and they will be there to support you throughout your entire college experience.

4. You Will Make Some of Your Best Friends

Working on a production with people that share a passion for theatre creates lasting friendships. The students that you will have the chance to collaborate with are some of the most dedicated and hardworking students that you will meet. A show can only come together if everyone is doing their very best, and the individuals that you will share the stage with, and work on crews with, will give nothing less. These are students that you will be with constantly throughout the production process, and so you will have the chance to develop friendships that will last a lifetime.

5. You Will Learn More About Yourself

In many cases, working on a theatrical production will put you outside of your comfort zone. Maybe you’ve got stage fright and every time you go to audition, you’re terrified, but theatre is still something you really want to do. Maybe you’ve never used a circular saw before, but to build the set that you’re working on, you’re going to have to learn. You might realize you have no idea what you’re doing, or you may find that you’re perfectly comfortable, but every show will be a learning process. You will find that you will be able to do things you never thought you would, and you will learn about who you are, and what you can accomplish, all┬áby working with Theatre Fairfield.
