Top 10 Sports at CU Boulder

The University of Colorado Boulder is a public research university in Boulder, Colorado. The school has around 29,000 undergraduate students that attend the school. There are plenty of different sports to join that fits your interests. Here are 10 of the top sports.

1. Basketball

The basketball team competes in the Pac-12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The season runs from October to March. The main area the team has games and practices at is the CU Events Center. Tad Boyle is the head coach of the team.  

2. Cross Country

The cross country season runs from September to November. The team competes in the NCAA championships and the PAC-12 championships. The head coach of the team is Mark Wetmore. In 2019, the men’s team placed 3rd in the NCAA Championships in November.

3. Football

The football season runs from August to November. The team competes in the NCAA Division I FBS level and the PAC-12 Conference. The team has so far obtained 30 All-Americans. Their first national title was in 1990. The majority of games and practices are held at Folsom Field.

4. Golf

The golf season runs from September to June. They have a short break from November to the beginning of February. The team competes in the PAC-12 championships as well as the NCAA championships. The head coach of the team is Roy Edwards.

5. Lacrosse

The lacrosse season goes from January to May. The team competes in the PAC-12 and the NCAA championships. A majority of the games are played at Kettridge Field. The head coach of the team is Ann Whidden. In 2019 they finished the season off with 11-8 for overall game stats. Most of their wins happened during a conference.

6. Skiing

The season runs from January to March. The head coach of the team is Richard Rokos. The team has been playing since 1998 when they finished 1st in both the NCAA West Championships and the NCAA West Regional. In 2019, the team finished 3rd in the NCAA Championships.

7. Soccer

The soccer team has their schedule from August to November. The head coach of the team is Danny Sanchez. The team has a majority of their games and practices at Prentup Field. The team has been playing since 1996 and 2019 they finished with 36 goals during the season.

8. Tennis

The tennis season runs from September to April. The team briefly has a one month break during the month of December. The team competes in the PAC-12 Championships. The coach of the team is Danielle Steinberg. The team has been playing for the school since 1978.

9. Track and Field

The reason for track and field goes from December to June. The team competes in the NCAA and the PAC-12 Championships. The head coach of the team is Mark Wetmore. In 2020, the team has their first ever USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) National Athlete.

10. Volleyball

The volleyball team has their schedule from August to the end of November. The team has a majority of their games and practices at the CU Events Center. The head coach of the team is Jesse Mahoney. The volleyball team has been playing since 1986. The team competes in the NCAA Championships.

The University of Colorado Boulder is a larger sized school that has plenty of sports to fill the interests and needs of its students. The sports teams all perform well in their various competitions and championship games. They are able to do this through team work and the help of their growth through teachings of their coaches.
