The upcoming semester is approaching quickly which means that many students are looking for classes to balance out their schedule. Lucky for you, we have listed ten of the easiest courses you can take at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design below.

1. AHIS 1201 – INTRODUCTION TO ART HISTORY

In this class, students will learn about the history of art. Students will learn about how artists create new ideas, material objects, and art institutions. Students will also gain a better understanding by knowing how art has shaped the world.

2. FHIS/AHIS 2820 – HISTORY OF ANIMATION

What’s your favorite cartoon? This class will touch on the history of animation form the early days of the cinema to the present. Students will learn about creating a narrative, documentary practices, cell animation, and avant-garde.

3. PHOT 2001 – INTRODUCTORY PHOTOGRAPHY

Are you the one who is always uploading photos on Instagram? This class will introduce students to the art of photography. Students will learn about photo composition, operating a camera, creating a visually appealing image, and creating content for the public.

4. JWLY 2000 – INTRODUCTION TO JEWELLERY

This class will focus on the art and design of jewelry making. Students will learn about creating and selling jewelry, contemporary work, issues in jewelry making, and where to begin when it comes to creating a certain aesthetic for your jewelry.

5. FHIS/AHIS 2800 – FILM HISTORY AND CRITICISM: 1890-1945

In this course, students will learn about the history of film from 1890 to 1945. Students will learn about experimentation for film-making in the early days, film exhibition, the development of sound, creating a narrative, and using color in films.

6. DSGN 2010 – DESIGN STUDIO 1: PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES

In this class, students will learn about the nature of design and how designs are created. This class will touch base on basic techniques for designing and how to communicate through your own designs. Students will also learn about typography and placing images on designs.

7. AHIS/FHIS 3853 – TOPICS IN FILM HISTORY: MEDIA, POLITICS AND CULTURE

This class will examine the relationship between mass media, culture, and politics through different films. Students will also learn about different ideologies, power in the world, and how the media represents various cultures and politics.

8. DRAW 2000 – INTRODUCT STUDIO IN DRAWING

Do you like drawing? This class will touch base on the fundamentals and techniques of drawing .Students will learn about drawing, creating a drawing, and using colors. Students will also learn about drawings in the world today.

9. SCLP 2000 – INTRODUCTORY SCULPTURE

In this course, students will learn about the the aesthetics, fundamentals, and techniques for sculpting. Students will learn about materials for creating a sculpture, working methods, carving, casting, modeling, and construction.

10. PNTG 2704 – WORKSHOP: SPRAY

This class will introduce students to spray painting techniques. Students will learn about pump sprayers, spray guns, and applications for spray painting. Students will also learn about the traditional  methods used for spray painting.
